The older I get the more apparent it is to me that nothing in the world lasts forever. Everything will come and go. Your money, health, hair and metabolism may look good… but none of it’s eternal.
1 Cor 13:8-13 NLT
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Here Paul reveals to us an important truth that the gifts of God will one day fulfil their purpose and then seemingly, will cease to function. But faith, hope and love will always have a purpose and therefore, though everything else will pass away faith, hope and love will abide or remain forever.
An example I like to think about is a tree. A tree will only remain whilst it is alive. As soon as it stops growing, it starts to die and begins to decay. Unless it reproduces, the future of that tree ends with it! For Faith Hope and Love to remain, they too must remain alive!
So let's start with Faith.
Hebrews 11:1 says,
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Faith is the ability to believe and keep believing and we get faith through the word of God.
Romans 10:17 says,
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
What you consistently hear is what you will believe, and what will govern the direction of your life. You need to have the Word of God coming in and going out and it needs to be alive in your life.
TO REMAIN IN FAITH - SPEAK OUT FAITH
Hebrews 4:12 says,
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
Words have power over your life. Negative words have power; positive words have power; but no word has more power over your life, than His Word. If you want remaining faith you have to have to speak out faith! Your tongue will try and hijack your faith, it will try and make you submit to your feelings, but feelings, even when true, are not the truth!
TO SPEAK OUT FAITH - SPEAK THE WORD
So let me ask you: What truth are you speaking over your life? Your circumstances? Your job? Your boss? Your husband? Your wife? Your kids? Create a habit of speaking out truth over your world.
Let me tell you that…
- You are more than a conqueror – Romans 8:37
- You are the head not the tail, only going up not down – Deuteronomy 28:13
- You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you – Philippians 4:13
- His grace is sufficient for you for his power made perfect in your weaknesses – 2 Corinthians 12:19
- With God all things are possible – Matthew 19:26
- No weapon formed against you will prevail – Isaiah 54:17
- And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them – Romans 8:28
Let’s make a commitment together to remain in our Faith. Ensuring that we keep the word of God alive in both our heart and our speech.
