With Christmas on the horizon and the inevitable barrage of events, celebrations, expenses and festivities, there's often a considerable amount of pressure that accompanies the excitement of the season. Many hard working families of all backgrounds and contexts can find it a difficult time financially, and those in scenarios where they've experienced loss and hardship stand to face a terribly lonely Christmas.
The silver lining is that people like yourself can directly impact someone's Christmas for the better, blessing them in ways that may be even more profound than you'll know. Paul writes to Timothy in the Bible, 'Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.' 1 Timothy 6:17-19. You can extend this generosity in various ways, whether through simple means or extravagant notions. The Lord loves when we share the love of Jesus with others.

Check out a reflection below from C3 Church member Jessica Smallwood, a recipient of a C3 Christmas Hamper in 2013.
What a blessing C3 Church is to our Community. I am a single mother of three young handsome sons. Like many single-parent families, Christmas time is financially stressful as bills continue to roll in and the spare change you have managed to pull together for Christmas doesn’t seem to stretch too far. The last few years we have been one of the family's to be blessed abundantly with Christmas Hampers from C3 Church. It seriously blows me away every time I receive one. Makes my tears flow a little river once in the privacy of my own home or car. The excitement on my sons’ faces as they helped unpack the hamper was pure joy.
We received beautiful gifts to place under our Christmas tree waiting for Christmas morning. Gifts not only for my boys but gifts for me too. I am thankful because it makes me feel like the church loves us but also that Jesus is still here looking out for my family, loving us despite our circumstances. I felt a greater peace as I entered into the festive celebrations. The hampers are filled with practical everyday items like tea, coffee, tea towels (oh, how lovely to have fresh new tea towels!) and tinned goods, but also have treats like chips, biscuits, sweets and festive foods. With gift vouchers that help get through the following days by getting extra groceries, filling up the car with petrol or helping to spoil the kids a little more. Having all that extra help made me feel empowered and able to keep a generous spirit myself. It enabled us to have some nice snacks and treats to take to events like our preschool Christmas disco and feel part of the community. I was able to contribute to our families Christmas Celebrations without the embarrassment of having nothing to share. I was able to go out and buy my sons the things that they really wanted for Christmas making their dreams come true with the peace of mind that there was food in the pantry to get through the following weeks without struggling to feed my children.
I am eternally grateful for the continued blessings that come forth out of being part of C3 Church. This gift of a hamper has lifted my spirits, helped my family to have a joyful Christmas and given me a boost in hope. If I, someone who is within the church can feel so much love and kindness through this generous act, I can only imagine the lives that are being touched and hearts that are being softened throughout our local community and beyond. Thank you to the C3 Church and members for spreading the Christmas Spirit. Being a blessing, a shining light to the people and families in our community that are in need and are doing it tough.
God Bless you C3 Church.
If you would like to nominate someone to be blessed with a C3 Church Christmas hamper in 2014, please contact us here, or visit the Info Desk at a weekend service. The more people we nominate, the more people we can bless! We have in the past had more people keen to make a hamper than we've had nominations, so have a think!
