Baptism - to plunge, immerse, soak, to wash, to be immersed
Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
When we come to know the wonderful grace that Jesus expressed at the Cross, we can't help but feel compelled to follow Him. Jesus was baptised as a public declaration of His sovereignty as the Son of God. As followers of Christ, we follow suit.
Being baptised is a declaration of your faith before God, family and friends that says you are putting Jesus at the centre.
Matthew 10:32-33 Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.
Baptism is an outward sign of an inward decision we have already made. It is symbolic of the fact that in baptism we go into the water and come out transformed and new, leaving behind our old lives and embracing our new life in Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
There is an incredible new life that God has in store for us. When we lay our agenda down for Him, we enable Him to move for us. The pressure is no longer on us but we can be grateful and thankful that Jesus carried those burdens because we are loved. Our mistakes and sins are no longer remembered and we are restored to relationship with God - from eternal Death to eternal Life. It is truly an awesome and miraculous moment when a person makes the decision to follow Jesus and display this outwardly through water baptism.
